Volkswagen to reveal T-ROC concept

Εικόνα
German giant Volkswagen are set to unveil their futuristic T-ROC concept SUV at the Geneva motor show. Volkswagen say it combines “the agility of an all-wheel-drive SUV with the airlessness of a convertible”, and the central roof sections can be removed and stored in the boot. The two-door T-ROC’s look is reminiscent of the Range Rover Evoque, with a low profile and compressed frame. It can seat four and would feature an engine similar to that in the new Golf GTD, with a top speed of 130mph and a 0-62mph figure of 6.9 seconds. The T-ROC has a seven-speed DSG gear-box and would have impressive fuel efficiency for an SUV of 57.6mpg. It is not as big as the Volkswagen Tiguan but is larger than the firm’s Taigun SUV concept, which is currently under development. Look out for real pictures when it is unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, but for the meantime, here’s some pretty good pictures of an artist’s impression…

Volvo Testing Driver Sensors

Εικόνα
Volvo is working on this sensor that can tell what direction you are looking in. Volvo has announced it has been carrying out research into systems that can help to check if a driver is distracted or sleepy. The Swedish-based company says this includes some technology that can tell what direction the driver is looking and how open their eyes are. This data, together with other factors such as the angle of their head, can be used to work out the driver’s state of alertness. So driver support systems like collision warning, or Lane Keeping Aid can be tuned to be more or less aggressive in terms of when they activate. Other possible uses include adjusting the angle of lighting inside and outside the car to where the driver is looking or being able to identify drivers automatically. Volvo says they have already installed the technology in some test vehicles and that it all builds towards their goal that nobody will be killed or seriously injured in one of their new cars. T

Supercars Jokingly ‘Blamed’ For Paris Smog

Εικόνα
Officials in Paris have implemented strict rules on driving to try and cut down on pollution after smog in the city reached potentially dangerous levels. Only drivers with odd-numbered registration plates were allowed to drive on the first day of the temporary ban. Those with even numbers on their reg plates were allowed to take to the roads on the second day, and so on. Public transport was also made free for three days, along with bike-sharing services. It was slightly unfortunate that the 2014 GT and Classic  Rallye de Paris  started just a couple of days before the ban came into force. That led to tongue-in-cheek speculation from the online community that a stunning Ferrari F40 and other supercars that took part could be to blame. Of course they’re not…but it gives us an excuse to show you some great footage of the event courtesy of alexsmolik .
